The Voyteck Challenge

‘If you’re not growing, you’re dying’

I fairly brutal but accurate quote that has stayed with me for years and always pushes me to learn and grow at every opportunity.

I am always trying to develop, learning a new sport, starting a new language, absorbing information from those around me. Self development is important to me. I think it’s important to always strive to be a better you tomorrow than you were today.

With this in mind, I contacted a photographer, the one and only Voyteck (check out his feed!) who I know to be exceptional with his framing and creative flare for angles and finding light anywhere.

He offered for me to come along to one of his workshops, an opportunity I leapt at.

I’m glad I did, as it was fantastic. He is a radiator of information, which in this day and age is refreshing! Where often people live with the understanding that knowledge is power, it is hard to find people that are happy to share their experience and open up a space for debate, growth and reflection. AWESOME!

We spent the afternoon looking at how we approach the subject matter and how he, as a photographer views the situation and how our perspectives differ and what do we deduce from that, divulging all the tips that he uses that would help us jump outside of our comfort zone.

We then went out into the bitter spring cold and worked with a couple to pose and photograph them, using and working with this new information.

It was a really small group of very talented photographers, and with all of us looking at the same couple in the same scenario it was both eye opening and inspiring to see how other creatives saw the images and composed their couple all shooting at one, making the most of the different angles and spaces available, which, as a wedding photography is often the spaces have to work in.

Here are some of the working images.  I would love to hear what you think.
