Alice and Richard

I am so excited to work with Alice and Richard on their wedding photography, I turned up to their Wedding Walk around like a kid at Christmas.

They are such an enigmatic and relaxed couple, who are both excited to document and record their day and the love that they share. As many photographers would likely agree, that’s so much fun when you have a couple that really value the photographs and are happy to dedicate the time to the process to make it really work.

As we are all local to the wedding venue and the ceremony location, I thought it would be a good idea for us to go on a wedding walk through, where we could visit all the areas I thought would be nice for photography and work out how long it would take to do, so we can schedule the photos and the day out to make the most of the photography time as well as spend a really nice amount of time with the guests celebrating their marriage.

I took the camera and my current lens of choice to shoot a few nice, relaxed engagement photos along the way. It’s such a benefit and a treat as a photographer, and the final shoot, when you get to spend time working with the camera and the couple before the special day. It also give the happy couple a selection of images that they can use on their wedding website as well as share with family and friends to celebrate their exciting news.

I had already been to the reception and ceremony locations, to get an idea of the location and then pre planed a route for us all to take with an idea of what pose / scenarios we would do at each point.

We met at the Putney Pantry, which is one of my favourite places to work, away from working from home, and also happens to be the caterer for their wedding. We ran through the vibes of the walk / shoot over a cup of tea and some very delicious coffee and walnut cake (highly recommended), and took to the road.

We worked through several areas that I really liked and wanted to experiment with, working to a Steve McQueen vibe that we all loved and is very true to them as a couple, running through some poses and hand placements that will stand us in good stead for the wedding day.

One of the elements of photography that I try to convey, is that out of 5000 photos, we only need a handful, so when you hear the shutter whirring, think of how many opportunities we can capture, and from all of them, we only need one gem of an image. It’s the golden moments that matter.

I found the walk through extremely valuable, both to see how much time it would take (adding in a little extra time for heels and a fabulous dress as well as busy bustling Saturday lunchtime streets), as well as working out what areas we could use to make the time spent worth-while. I had a lovely shot on the tow path that I really wanted to get, however, trying to get there with the distance, will be too much of a strain on the day as well as take away valuable time from the guests.

Here are some of the shots. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
