Helen & Lex

Lex and Helen get married at The Petersham Hotel in Richmond London Overlooking the river Thames

I met Helen and Lex at the London Corinthian Sailing Club, on the TIdeway where they by chance, also met.

They have been together for as long as I have known them and have two fabulous children, who my partner looked after many moons ago. A few years after I met them, they announced their intention to make their long term relationship official and share their celebrations with close family and friends.

When they asked me to take their wedding photos, I was honoured and very flattered. Knowing how private they are, to be asked into their day and to be trusted to treasure all the things and people that they hold dear, meant so much to me.

We met at The Petersham Hotel in Richmond, where we were joined by Terry the event organiser. Terry showed us the plan of the day all the rooms that we were going to use and how the day would function from his perspective.

With Christmas on the horizon, the plan to have an eight foot Christmas tree in the entrance to the hotel became a focal point for the formal photos.

They went for a very subtle and elegant colour scheme of eucalyptus and cream roses that complemented her beautiful navy, knee length silk dress, covered with a white fur stole. It was subtle, minimalist and beautiful.

The registry ceremony was in a private room looking onto the bend in the river thames made famous by Turner’s Paintings, and celebratory bubbles on the terrace overlooking the beautiful common land that leads up towards Ham and Petersham. It was a perfectly English overcast drizzly day which made the significance and emotion, seem to be a special secret that was only known to the select guests.

Their two boys, Seb and Ollie gave well rehearsed readings that brought a tear to the eye of every parent in the room to celebrate their part in the family that was on this beautiful journey together.

As the party were ushered down the beautiful staircase passed the seven foot Christmas tree we made our way to lunch. Beautifully prepared by the hotel, there was one table surrounded by family and friends. Speeches and Celebrations were followed by a new wave of guests joining to help dance the night away in a historic renovated wine cellar, transformed for the day.

Helen, Lex and I had agreed to have limited formal, posed photos and with the change of weather, Helen made an executive decision to not have the family images on the balcony, we did however, manage to nip out for a few images where we were joined by the boys and managed to get some lovely earnest images that truly reflect the joy and love of the day.
